FST releases new graphics platform for advanced Multi-Media on Embedded / Mobile Linux Devices.

Singapore, CommunicAsia, 13th June, 2005

Australian company Fluffy Spider Technologies (FST) today released the latest version of FST FancyPants a tiny, high performance User Interface platform for for media-centric devices.

This release of FST FancyPants, code-named "Suspenders", provides many new features including a series of Special Effects, Intelligent Skinning, new A/V codecs, high level handling of A/V objects and better operating system and chipset support.

FST FancyPants delivers a series of special effects that can be applied to on-screen elements such as images and currently-playing videos, in real time.

These special effects include:

  • Soft Shadows
  • Screen and image transitions including fades and wipes
  • Full 32 bit alpha blending
  • Animations
  • Movement of arbitrary objects
  • Glitter
  • Color manipulation
  • Scaling
  • Rotation
  • Alpha blended lines
  • 3d folds

FST FancyPants's intelligent skinning / theming capability allows the OEM to quickly provide applications that look unique and can offer a greater level of personalization for their customers. Mobile phones can be branded by the service provider, the OEM or as part of a marketing campaign.

With its emphasis on media, FST FancyPants currently supports the following A/V codecs:

  • Encapsulation: AVI, MPG, MP4 and MOV
  • Video: Mpeg1 video, Mpeg2 video, Mpeg4 (DIVX, XVID)
  • Audio: WAV, MP2 audio, MP3 audio

Robi Karp, Managing Director of FST said: "The special effects and video capabilities allow for a truly unique experience. Imagine a video playing in the background of an application with the buttons semi-transparent on the top. Or a video browser, with multiple videos playing and transparency between them".

FST FancyPants provides all these features in a tiny package. It is less than 3MB on disk.

"All OEMs are incredibly conscious about minimizing the footprint of software on devices. The small size of FancyPants makes it especially attractive said Karp.

For this release, FST has worked very closely with a USA based POS terminal manufacturer. The name cannot be published yet due to confidentiality. "After evalulating several options, they found FancyPants to be fully featured, flexible and easy to use. We will be making a seperate announcement about that deal in the coming weeks" said Karp.

FST FancyPants is currently available for Embedded Linux (including Qtopia support), WinCE and Symbian.
